G. Venugopal is an Indian playback singer well known for his musical work spread over Malayalam films, non film music, Malayalam poetry, Malayalam drama songs, and TV music. The many prestigious awards he has won include the coveted best playback singer award (Kerala state) thrice in 1988, 1990 and 2004, the Kerala Film Critics award in 1987 and 1989 and the Asianet award in 2007. Venugopal has turned to music composing and has scored the tune to notable senior poetess Sugathakumari's poem "Oru thai nadaam namukkammaykku vendi" written for Kerala Government's Harithasree project in connection with World Environment day, 2014.

His mentors and teachers include Sri. Sherthalla Gopalan Nair, Mangad Nadesan, Smt. Palkulangara Ambika Devi, Sri. Perumbavur Ravindranath, Sri. B. Sasikumar, Sri. V. Subrahmanyam and his own aunt Parur K Radhamony.

G. Venugopal hails from a family of gifted musicians. His aunts Parur. K. Saradamony and Parur K Radhamony, eminent Karnatic musicians were popularly known as Parur sisters and his mother, K. Sarojini was the head of the dept of music, Women's college, Trivandrum.

G. Venugopal is a post graduate in MA (English) and MJ (Journalism) from the Kerala University. From 1980 to 1985 he was the undisputed first prize winner in Kerala University youth festivals. In 1984 and 1985 he was adjudged "Kalaprathibha", the individual champion among the male contestants. He served for a very short period as journalist at Indian Express and for 14 years as Programme Executive, All India Radio, till he resigned in 2003. His stint with journalism and his nose for news is alive as with his blog "Songs on Sand" and regular articles on music and related topics in contemporary journals.

G. Venugopal is behind a new method of fusing contemporary malayalam poetry wth current music trends through his theme "Music with Meaning". Kaavyaraagam and Kaavyageethigal, volumes of great contemporary poetry in his lush, rich, emotive rendition is well entrenched into malayalee ethos. Christian devotional songs translated into Sanskrit and Christian sahasranamam in his voice add yet another feather to his unmatched creativity. Vishnusahasranamam, Lalithasahasranamam and Kanakadhara in his personalised rendering style epitomises G. Venugopal's inherent musical blessing and remain treasures in his melodious life.

"Sasneham G Venugopal" is a charity initiative started with the help and aid of his fans across the globe. It was started in 2009 when he reached the landmark 25th year of his playback singing career. It's charity with a difference with the volunteers from the Sasneham G Venugopal group teaching art and craft to the kids of the Regional Cancer Centre and Poojappura Mahila orphanage. Venugopal is the Goodwill Ambassador for the programmes on Dyslexia under Indian Medical Association, Kerala. G. Venugopal is the Vice Chairman of the "Swasthi Foundation", a charitable society working in Trivandrum and is the Executive Honorary Director of Swasthi school of Music and dance functioning at Trivandrum. Apart from extending helping hands to charity work and needy organisations, Venugopal has forayed into humanitarian efforts in keeping up and spreading messages that directly affect our life style and health. These include "Anti tobacco campaign", "Green Kerala Campaign", Organ donation campaigns and cleanliness drive under the banner "Clean Kerala".
